Custom-made
pressure garments provide
that constant, even
pressure necessary to aid
in preventing
hypertrophic scarring and
disfigurement. To be
effective, the garments
should be worn 24 hours a
day, every day, until the
scar tissue is mature,
usually 9-14 months
post-burn. A pressure
garment maintains
effective pressure for
2-3 months and then must
be replaced. Alternating
between several garments
will aid in lengthening
the life of the garments,
although, in some cases
of weight change, or
spurts of rapid growth in
children, more frequent
re-measurement and
replacement may be
necessary.
