INSTRUCTIONS
FOR THE USE OF
SILON-TEX®
Silicone-Bonded
Textile
Indications
- Hypertrophic
scarring from burns and other trauma
- Keloid
scar formations
Contraindications
Silon-TEX
should not be used on open wounds,
excessively sore areas, or areas with
excessive fluid drainage.
Some patients
exhibit rashes and rash-like symptoms with
Silon-TEX as with all silicone products. Rest
the skin for a few days, wash with soap and
water, air-dry, and then re-apply Silon-TEX
for 1 hour, increasing the duration of
re-application each day. If symptoms persist,
discontinue use and consult a physician.
To Be Used Only Under
Direction of a Doctor, Nurse,
or Therapist
Application
Wash with soap
and towel or air dry the skin surface prior
to each application of Silon-TEX.
If needed to
facilitate donning of the garment, sprinkle
baby powder on the silicone surface of the
Silon-TEX. Otherwise, keep the skin surface
as clean and dry as possible when applying
Silon-TEX.
Silon-TEX is
used with traditional Nylon Spandex pressure
garments. The material may be sewn directly
into the garment in any configuration
required by the injury and as requested by
the therapist or physician.
Care of Silon-TEX
Silon-TEX is
as durable and washable as the rest of the
garment. Hand wash in cool water with mild
soap. Rinse thoroughly. Avoid extremely hot
water, hot air, and bleach. Most patients
should have two sets of pressure garments so
that one set may be worn while the other is
being washed. For patients with garments
including large areas of Silon-TEX it may be
necessary to order a second set with no Silon
due to discomfort caused by the occlusive
properties of silicone.
Precautions
The silicone
surface of Silon-TEX is not sticky but it is
resistive. Care should be used in ordering
pressure garments with Silon-TEX to ensure
that the patient will be able to don the
garment without irritating the wound area.
Consult with our design staff to ensure that
the maximum benefits of silicone are applied
where needed.
Pockets & Linings
Silon-TEX can
be sewn directly into the inside of a garment
as a simple lining shown on the back of this
vest. Or, as illustrated by the Silon-TEX
pocket, one side may be left open so that
foam pads can be inserted for extra
compression.
Inserts
The chin and
cranial inserts shown on this open face mask
illustrate placement of Silon-TEX inserts
into a garment.
Custom Design
Custom means
the way you want it. We constructed two
fingers of this glove out of Silon-TEX to
cover only the healing scars resulting from a
severe laceration.
